We awoke (or stopped trying to sleep) around 9:30 am, ate a granola bar, and broke camp. We made a quick trip back, and brushed our teeth and such at the car. As no showers were available at this site, that'd have to wait until Mineral Wells. Mineral Wells was roughly two hours to the north, and the trip was uneventful except for one incident where my right front brake ceased. It seemed fine, however, after we pulled over and the rest of the trip went smoothly. Mineral Wells proved to be a town of 20,000, and we stopped to examine a rather massive 10+ story building which was abandoned and perched in the center of town (We would later find out this was the Baker Hotel.) After that, we arrived at the park, and promptly received our campsite in the only area without showers. We set up camp, and noticed that it was colder than yesterday, and the water was choppy. I had purchased a swim suit (Like I do every trip) in town, but it was obvious I wouldn't be using it. That option ruled out, we set off on the equestrian trails. There, a vital mistake was made. Jen handed me the map, which lead to the hike taking twice as long as intended (almost 6 or 7 miles.) Returning, we took advantage of the showers located near the trailhead, and returned to our campsite to start a fire and eat. I put the car in motion without realizing that Sparky hadn't closed the trunk. Once he'd done that, I started off only to have some baggage that I had forgotten fall off the roof. As I had acquired a new egg crate and sleeping bag, I looked forward to a more pleasant night. Indeed, after eating a sausage supper over a wood fire, that's precisely what I enjoyed.
