We slept far better than previously, and had a breakfast of corned beef hash and instant coffee. Apparently, neither of my two companions had had hash before, so I was called out to cook it. It didn't appear to agree well with Sparky. We started off with an early morning like along the lakeside trails that we hadn't had a chance to visit the prior day. It was quite brief and ran along the piers and campsites. Returning from that, we got in the car and toured the city of Mineral Wells, starting with the Baker Hotel that had so fascinated Charlie. There were several other buildings that were also of interest that we explored, before having coffee in the Black Horse Cafe. The owner there showed us a very nice book detailing the history of the town through the ages. After coffee, we decided to try to reach Pinto Lake, which was a hill over from the town. However, it appeared the bridge was out, so after a stop by a Mineral Water vendor, we headed to Possum Kingdom state park, an hour to the west. On the way, we saw a turkey, but even though we yelled at Sparky to get the camera well in advance, he managed to essentially miss the shot. At Possum Kingdom, we discovered that the park had been closed to campers since February 28th, due to failure of the water filtration plant. They let us in anyway, and we had the run of an empty park which lead to a rather pleasant hike. While driving back to town, the "Check Engine" light came on, but it was 5 pm by the time we made it to Mineral Wells, so any mechanic would have to wait until another day. We stopped at Pizza Hut for dinner, however Sparky's stomach problems had apparently gotten worse and he didn't eat much, or keep down what he did eat. We stopped at the tiny three-screen theatre in town to take in "Robots" the movie, at 6:45. We had some time to kill so we roamed around Wal-mart for a while, which was actually more entertaining than one would think. The movie was rather good, and the theatre itself in good condition and quite new. We headed back for the night and whipped up a raging fire with the wood we had "acquired" from Possum Kingdom. Marshmallows were roasted, and everyone headed to bed.
