January 7th, 2016

We arose early, packed, and checked out of our hotel. Jen got tired of waiting for me at the car (or simply wanted to avoid the possibility of another column-scraping like our previous visit)
and unparked the car for me. From there, we drove out of town, stopping at the shopping mart on the way out to pick up supplies. We acquired a nice, hard cooler to store our food fo the
next three days, as there was little dining near Milford sound. After a breakfast in the parking lot of muffins, we headed south towards Knobs Flat, where we would stay the night. Weather
was relatively cooperative, although the drive was somewhat long, Knobs Flat being only about 30 km from Queenstown as the crow flies, but about 5-6 times as far by road. We eventually arrived,
and checked into our accomodations, which was essentially the only camp out there.

Well, really, we tried to check in. Even though we arrived at 2 pm, the service of our units was running late, and they told us to come back in two hours. So we went up the road a little
farther to go visit a waterfall, which turned out to be down a rather long gravel road. We also passed Gunns Camp, which was our alternative accomodation had we been unable to get Knobs Flat,
and it appeared our decision was... fortunate. The waterfall was only a short distance from the road, and Nick and I hiked up there while Jen used the restroom, the latter of which was apparently
quite the unpleasant experience. Such are the joys of composting toilets in the middle of nowhere...

We returned to Knob's Flat around 4 pm, and checked into our rooms. We had PC (our innkeep) bring around the grill, and I grilled some lamb shoulder chops, which were excellent. We accompanied
that with some garlic bread heated on the gas broiler in our room. I was distracted, and ended up singeing some of the bread, resulting in our fire alarm going off for some time. After some drinks,
