If anything, the smoke was worse in the morning. Nonetheless, we headed off to Crater Lake. We even saw some smoldering forest along the way. We got to the lake late-morning, which was quite busy, but visibility was poor. I definitely want to go back someday. We drove around about half the rim, stopping for photos. Matt somehow broke the camera, so now it only takes one photo before becoming unresponsive until you turn it off and turn it back on again. So it's all cell phone photos from here on out. Selfies were taken.
Hiking was out of the question due to the poor air quality, so we said goodbye to Crater Lake after only a brief visit. On to Eugene. Matt remembered that there was one road still closed but couldn't remember which one, so of course that's the one we took. Fortunately they had a sign up early and we didn't lose too much time. We got to Eugene in time for a late lunch, which was good, but cheap, pizza. Matt wanted to explore some, but I really didn't feel well after all the smoke. I just wanted to lay down. Matt didn't end up going anywhere, either.
Dinner was at Ambrosia, a small Italian restaurant in a historic building near the pizza place. It was good, but...service was slow. We were in no real hurry, however, so we still had a good time. Matt left his sunglasses, though.
